ISAN CALLING: The Return of Art on the Farm at the Jim Thompson Farm Tour 2024

The Art On Farm project at Jim Thompson Farm is supervised and curated by the Jim Thompson Art Center team, which has invited artists to work on the farm since 2009. This year, Jim Thompson Farm presents the theme ISAN CALLING, which is particularly notable and unique. It brings together 18 leading artists, including participants in international art festivals such as the Thailand Biennale Chiang Rai (2023), the Venice Biennale (2023), and the Asia Pacific Triennial Brisbane (2024), along with guest artists from the Art on the Farm project, which is part of the Jim Thompson Farm Tour.

Their artwork spans the North, Northeast, and Central regions of Thailand, as well as international locations. The project emphasizes the use of local materials, handicrafts, sustainability, and ecosystems. Participating artists include Pinaree Sanpitak, Mit Jai Iin, all(zone), Angkrit Ajchariyasophon, Kuerkamol Niyom, Sittikorn Khawsa-ad, Sanitas Pradittasnee, Chata Maiwong, Somluk Pantiboon, Giles Ryder, Bounpaul Phothyzan, Kelsey Wagner, Nakprat Autthayota, thingsmatter (Savinee Buranasilapin and Tom Danneker), Atittayaporn Saenpo, Natthida Palasak, Navin Rawanchaikul, as well as works created during a workshop by graduate students from the Faculty of Architecture, Columbia University, New York.

In addition to the artworks, this year’s Art On Farm also features an art trail, presenting the story of “Lan Xiao Home” for families. The project includes learning activities about stories and legends by Kuerkamol Niyom, marking a year that seamlessly combines art, culture, and Isan, creating connections with the world.

These works and activities aim to inspire visitors, broaden perspectives, and stimulate creativity. The goal is for this area to showcase significant works of Isan art and culture while promoting the conservation and dissemination of contemporary art within an international context.
